Pembroke man denies child sex charges

A 21-year-old Pembroke man has denied the luring and sexual assault of a child.

Communication “for the purpose of committing exploitation” allegedly took place between the defendant and the accuser, neither of whom can be named for legal reasons, between an unknown date and October 9 last year.

The sexual assault charge is alleged to have taken place on October 8.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released the defendant this morning on $5,000 bail with a like surety on the condition that he have no contact with the accuser.

A trial date was set for May 20.

Elsewhere in Magistrates’ Court today, a 59-year-old Pembroke man pleaded not guilty to grievous bodily harm and physical abuse of a senior.

Ernest Smith was released on $5,000 bail and ordered to return for trial on June 2.
