Nic Narraway made a winning return to the Fat Tire Massive Mountain Bike Series, taking top honours in the season’s second round race at Casemates in Dockyard.Having missed the opening race of the series, in which Dominique Mayho clinched victory at Arboretum last month, Narraway enjoyed the perfect return from school in the United States, with a dominant display.Competing in the Male Open 60 minute category, Narraway, who is usually associated with road racing but competes in mountain biking in the US, showcased his adaptability from the outset, getting off to an aggressive start on a challenging course that winded through the actual insides of the old prison, along the road and around the entire top defence line surrounding the Commissioners’ House and Maritime Museum. Before long, Narraway was soon in his own race with time to spare as a strong group of young riders, including Liam Flannery, Cameron Morris, Alexander Miller and Moses Johnson battled it out for places in the chasing pack. Building on his strong start, Narraway eased to the finish line in a winning time of 1hr 5min 6.486sec, more than a minute ahead of Miller who came home in 1:06:14.801, with Flannery clinching third place in a time of 1:07:43 to complete the podium places. In the Male Open 30 minutes category, Clive Langley held off a late challenge from Raphael Brunorio to take victory in a winning time of 33min 06.071sec, less than four seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Tony Wood completed the top three.Zoe Hasselkuss came out on top in a battle with her sibling Jasmine Hasselkuss to take top honours in the Female Open 30-minute category. The former took the chequered flag in a winning time of 38:44, slightly under 30 seconds ahead of the latter, with Kayla Raymond completing the podium.There was also joy for Enshe’Nico Davis, who claimed overall victory in the 13 to 16 age category, finishing ahead of Rory Fleming and Gordon Smith, while in the 12 and under category, Jackson Langly prevailed, with Harris Fleming second and Joshua Wilson third.The six-race series resumes on December 15 with the third race taking place at Lagoon Park in Sandys.
