Daniel Augustus and Dwayne Pearman both impressed competing on the Moonlight Golf Tour in Florida this week.

The local professional golfers produced top-ten showings competing at two different 18-hole events at the West Orange Country Club and the ChampionsGate International Golf Course.

They both competed in Tuesday’s tournament at the Lloyd Clifton-designed par-71 West Orange Country Club in the Unites States, where Augustus finished tied for third and Pearman tied for 16th.

Augustus fired a bogey-free three-under-par 68 that included an eagle and a birdie to finish two shots back of joint winners Michael Dart, of Canada, and Lance Wheeler, of the US.

“It wasn’t hard work at all,” Augustus said.

“They are going through a rough time at West Orange CC, so had the greens been in a better shape I would have easily been like seven ... eight [under par].

“I hit the ball really well. I only missed three greens and the three greens that I missed I think I only missed one badly. The others were just on the fringe, so my ball striking is getting better.

“I’m actually committing to shots again. Just stepping up and swinging freely and that’s a big difference, as anyone would tell you in golf.”

Pearman carded a five-over-par, 76 to finish in a four-way tie for 16th.

He improved on that showing the next day competing in another 18-hole Moonlight Golf Tour event at the Greg Norman designed ChampionsGate International Golf Course in Orlando, where he placed eighth after carding a six-over-par, 78.

Augustus had originally planned to compete in Wednesday’s event as well, but ultimately decided to skip it and work on his swing instead.

The past Bermuda Open winner has been putting in a lot of practice hours sharpening his game since missing the cut at last week’s South Carolina Open at the Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, South Carolina.

“Just been putting in the work since last week,” Augustus said. “Took a couple of days off and then I put in a couple of days of solid practice and did some work on becoming tighter so that I can hopefully qualify for the PGA Tour event [Bermuda Championship].”

Augustus is scheduled to compete in a 36-hole qualifier at Port Royal Golf Course on October 16 and 17 to determine the final two local participants for the inaugural PGA Tour-sanctioned Bermuda Championship.

Pearman has been granted a sponsor’s exemption from qualification for the main event and thus handed an automatic spot in the 72-hole tournament also to be held at Port Royal on October 31 to November 3.

The Bermuda Championship is a new addition to the 2019-20 PGA Tour and will involve professionals who do not qualify for the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions in China this year.

The championship will involve 120 professionals and carries a purse of $3 million and offer 300 FedEx Cup points to the winner.

As a boost to Bermuda, the event will be broadcast on The Golf Channel in 225 countries.
