Maria to pass Bermuda on Tuesday

Hurricane Maria was tonight said not to be a threat to Bermuda at present.

The storm’s closest approach to the island within three days is expected to be 428 nautical miles to the west at 4am on Tuesday.

Maria is packing 100 knot sustained winds and gusts of 120 knots and was moving north north at 8 knots at midnight.

The Bermuda Weather Service warned that Maria may move closer to Bermuda in the future.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Lee’s closest point of approach to Bermuda has passed and it is not listed as a threat to the island.

Lee at noon was around 782 nautical miles east of Bermuda and moving north at around 2 knots.
