Sandys man held after police officer hit by car

A man was in police custody last night after a woman police officer was alleged to have been hit by a car after she tried to ticket the vehicle with the driver at the wheel.A police spokesman said: “The officer was in the process of issuing a parking ticket to a male driver who reportedly attempted to drive off and struck the officer resulting in her having to be taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained during the incident.“A 48-year-old Sandys Parish man has been taken into custody in connection with this incident.”The incident is alleged to have happened about 3pm outside the Phoenix Store on Reid Street in Hamilton.The spokesman added that the injured officer was discharged from the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after treatment yesterday.Police have appealed for witnesses.
