The spectacular Hamilton light show proved a little too exciting for one expectant mother but Keneshia Taylor could not be happier.Mrs Taylor, 39, who was due to give birth on January 16, began to feel cramps while in the crowd for the New Year’s Eve event. She gave birth to Nia Elizabella, weighing only 4lb 1oz, at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital at 12.06pm yesterday. The delighted mother told The Royal Gazette yesterday: “I wasn’t expecting to have a baby today.“I think she is a blessing — especially to have her on New Year’s Day.” Nia is the third girl for Mrs Taylor and her husband, Terence, from Devonshire, who have been married for five years. The couple said they hoped for “happiness and success” in 2020. Nia was Bermuda’s second baby of the decade, after a girl weighing 7lb 2oz was born at the hospital at 7.58am. She was the second child for a Southampton couple, who asked not to be named, who have been married for three years. The child’s 24-year-old mother said that her due date had been January 15. But she added of her daughter: “She said no and started marching to the beat of her own drum.” The mother went into labour at about 7.30pm on New Year’s Eve. She said: “It was supposed to be a quiet evening together. Our son was being babysat. It just didn’t turn into that.” The couple said that they planned to grow their family in the future by fostering and adopting. The father said: “We’re big advocates for not just being Christians who talk but Christians who walk.”His wife added: “What better way to do it than your home.” The couple hope to cherish the time with their young family in the year ahead. They said: “Time is really fleeting — it’s easy to get caught up in things.”A Bermuda Hospital Board spokeswoman said yesterday: “Staff of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital maternity unit have been busy on the first day of 2020.She added: “The babies and their mothers are healthy and getting some much needed rest.”
