Collective effort: members of the International Women’s Club of Bermuda made up 82 hampers which were donated to Family Centre for distribution to families in need over the holiday season

More than 80 holiday hampers were delivered to families in need to help them enjoy the festive season. The bundles were themed around children, breakfast or dinner trimmings and were prepared by the International Women’s Club of Bermuda. They were donated to Family Centre.Louise Foden-Pattinson, of the IWC, said: “Family Centre provides critical subsidised child and family intervention services to the Bermuda community and at a time of year when resources are low, the International Women’s Club was able to donate 82 hampers to Family Centre, and in turn to families most in need.”Holiday breakfast bundles included items like pancake or waffle mix, tinned fruit, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cereal and granola.Canned vegetables, gravy and stuffing mixes, cranberry sauce and stock were among the goods in hampers themed around the trimmings for a holiday dinner.A “kid-friendly holiday hamper” included treats like pudding cups, popcorn, peanut butter and crackers. Ms Foden-Pattinson added: “We asked our members to either purchase a complete hamper or part of one, alternatively to give food store vouchers and we then went along and purchased the food on the lists to make up the hampers. “These were then dropped off at Family Centre and they distributed them to those most in need. “This is the second year we have made up specific hampers and found that they have been very gratefully received and we know that each family who receives one will be able to make a complete meal out of them.”Family Centre was founded in 1990 and has provided early intervention services to children suffering from family-based problems since 1996.Its website said: “Through our specialised programmes and prevention initiatives, we provide families with the skills they need to be successful and to sustain that success for future generations. “The scope of Family Centre’s work is island-wide, as services are available to any Bermuda resident that meets the criteria and has the need.”
