A massive cargo ship was forced to divert to Bermuda at the weekend after a crewman complained of stomach problems. The Panamanian-registered Newseas Jade, en route from Russia to Port Manatee in Florida, dropped off a 32-year-old Chinese sailor on Saturday morning. The sick man was transferred to the marine and ports pilot boat St David, delivered to shore and taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. The ship’s captain alerted authorities on the island when the ship was about 575 miles northwest of the island. The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre, which co-ordinated the mercy mission, said strict Covid-19 precautions were taken throughout the transfer operation.
