The former Minister of National Security described the fallout from the Blu Bar & Grill Restaurant controversy as one of the most difficult times of his life.Wayne Caines and tourism minister Zane DeSilva were both forced to resign after they were caught on camera breaching Covid-19 regulations at a dinner at the Warwick restaurant this month.Mr Caines addressed the issue during the motion to adjourn at the House of Assembly on Friday night.He said: “These last two weeks have been some of the most difficult of my life.“I would like to say that I accept that I played a part in the debacle that we see now, I realise that I fell below standard.”Mr Caines outlined a host of achievements during his tenure including counter violence activities with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Team and Gang Violence Reduction Team, as well as extensive measures to keep the community safe during the pandemic.He added that he remained committed to the Progressive Labour Party.“We were committed to making sure that this country got through the most difficult time in our history.“All the time our main effort was to ensure this country remained safe.“We will continue to go from strength to strength under the leadership of Premier David Burt. “I gave my all to the people of Bermuda. I gave my essence.“I gave my blood, I gave my sweat, I gave my tears to both black and white, to both rich and poor, to make this country a better place.“I have been defrocked and lost a ministry that I had given my all for.”
