Kim Wilson reflects on May psychological advocacy efforts
The Minister of Health pledged to strengthen care for mental illness as Mental Health Anti-Stigma Month came to a close.
Kim Wilson said the commemorations throughout May were “one of the most active and collaborative to date”, with more to come this month.
Anti-stigma events took place every week in May, with the first happening in Victoria Park on May 4.
Ms Wilson, who was speaking on Friday during the House of Assembly, said the most impactful had been the Youth Mental Health Debate, where young people discussed privacy, agency and parental help in getting care.
She also paid tribute to the Youth Mental Health Town Hall at Bermuda College and the Vibe Tribe Mental Health Awareness Committee at CedarBridge Academy.
Ms Wilson said Anti-Stigma Month would conclude on June 19 with the annual Move More Games to integrate mental and physical health and awareness.
She reminded the House that $2.29 million was earmarked for mental health support, which she said expanded access to counselling and therapy services.
