Warwick hold their nerve in thriller

Warwick Workmen’s Club Two advanced to the snooker final of the Island Construction Cup after beating Sandys Boat Club Two 3-2 in a black-ball thriller last night.

Steven Bremar opened the scoring for Warwick when he completed a convincing victory over Sandy’s Tyler Siese, taking the frame 59-13.

Chris Bromby, Sandy’s captain, fought back, however, and levelled the score as he dismissed Warwick’s Mike Zimmerman in a close frame, which ended 50-38.

Ray DeSilva bounced back for Warwick, restoring their lead, clinching victory over Sandy’s Owen Siese in a nail-biting black-ball finish, winning 42-36.

Bo Bromby levelled the score again for Sandy’s when he overcame Warwick’s Zane DeSilva in another black-ball finish in a 56-55 triumph.

The deciding frame involved a rematch for Sandy’s Owen Siese and Warwick’s Ray DeSilva.

In one of the closest fought matches in recent memory, Warwick narrowly averted what would have been a major upset in a black-ball shoot-out, the third of the match, to deny underdogs Sandys.

Chris Bromby, Sandy’s captain, described the match as “epic and exciting snooker”.

Warwick Two will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Warwick One and Sandys One.
