Warwick hold their nerve in thriller

Warwick Workmen’s Club Two advanced to the snooker final of the Island Construction Cup after beating Sandys Boat Club Two 3-2 in a black-ball thriller last night.Steven Bremar opened the scoring for Warwick when he completed a convincing victory over Sandy’s Tyler Siese, taking the frame 59-13.Chris Bromby, Sandy’s captain, fought back, however, and levelled the score as he dismissed Warwick’s Mike Zimmerman in a close frame, which ended 50-38.Ray DeSilva bounced back for Warwick, restoring their lead, clinching victory over Sandy’s Owen Siese in a nail-biting black-ball finish, winning 42-36.Bo Bromby levelled the score again for Sandy’s when he overcame Warwick’s Zane DeSilva in another black-ball finish in a 56-55 triumph.The deciding frame involved a rematch for Sandy’s Owen Siese and Warwick’s Ray DeSilva.In one of the closest fought matches in recent memory, Warwick narrowly averted what would have been a major upset in a black-ball shoot-out, the third of the match, to deny underdogs Sandys.Chris Bromby, Sandy’s captain, described the match as “epic and exciting snooker”.Warwick Two will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Warwick One and Sandys One.
