A maintenance worker has been released from the hospital after an industrial accident, according to his West End employer.

John Burcher, the general manager of the Fun Golf attraction in Dockyard, confirmed that the man injured himself Monday during renovations.

He explained that the employee was cutting metal when he lost control of a hand grinder and cut his forearm.

Mr Burcher added: “He’s doing fine. He was released from the hospital a few hours later after getting some stitches. He’s at home doing fine now.

“I told him to take his time at home and that there’s no rush.”

Staff at the golf course were replacing a metal door in a “back area” when the incident took place, Mr Burcher said.

He added that he was not on the premises when the incident took place, but received a call from one of his employees.

He said: “We’ve never had any accidents like this before.

“I was, of course, shocked and just had to turn my attention to his care and make sure everything was all right.”

Mr Burcher said the business was not busy at the time and that no one else was injured during the incident.

He added: “He’s doing fantastic. We’re happy that everything worked out well for him.

“Everybody was very responsive — the staff attended to him and another gentleman that happened to be at Fun Golf tended to him until fire and rescue arrived.”
