Slow start for island’s thoroughbred
Castle Harbour, the Bermudian-owned thoroughbred, finished ninth on the opening day of the flat season in the Betway Doncaster Mile on Saturday.
Ridden by Jimmy Fortune, Castle Harbour went off at 12-1 in the 11-runner field, starting slowly and was towards the rear for the much of the race.
He made some headway with two furlongs of the class 1 race remaining but then faded inside the final furlong.
Castle Harbour enjoyed a superb start to his career last season, winning the Alex Scott Maiden Stakes at Newmarket in April before storming to victory in the Conundrum HR Consulting Stakes at York a month later.
Trained by John Gosden, Castle Harbour has struggled to recapture that type of form, however, with finishes of sixth, third and eighth prior to Saturday’s outing.
