Judyann Bean offers a fresh, new gospel stylings
Singer Judyann Bean brings a fresh gospel touch in her new CD.
Ms Bean said she wrote the lyrics for the new album ?A Fresh Anointing? and hummed the tunes for her New York producer Frank Owens who then wrote the music.
Ms Bean, who is the niece of singers from the Bermuda Strollers, has been writing since she was a girl and this is her third CD.
?I wrote one of my first songs when I was 12 years old and I have been writing over the years,? she said.
?I have three books out and this is my third CD within the year.?
Her last CD was called ?A Tribute to Love? and the single before that was called ?Forever ? All that I Am?.
Ms Bean has eight children ranging in age from seven to 30 and her son Sydney Bean sings as well. Her aim is to someday do a CD with all her children.
Ms Bean said her move towards the gospel scene came after singing ?love stuff? in the hotels and at other venues.
?I sang at banquets in the hotels for three years,? she said. ?And I always found that I went back to gospel, because it was my first love.
?All the words just came to me.
?This was the easiest one I have done and it was completely written in one week.
?It was amazing. This is why I called it ?A Fresh Anointing? because the spirit spoke to me and I just kept writing for the whole week.
?All the tunes just came one after the other. I hope to get another anointing.?
Ms Bean said the anointing happened when she was in the house of the Lord.
?I was in church when it happened and that is when I wrote the first song,? she said.
?Then I went home and wrote another one and I was writing and cooking. It was wonderful. I don?t know if I will ever get it again.?
Ms Bean said, in the past, all of her writing had been more sporadic, rather than regular.
She said: ?Before all my other writing had been from different dates and then I?d put it all together, but this time it was different.?
The songs were put together with a synthesiser and Mr. Owens played the piano.
However, for the first CD last year they had a live band and she said: ?I think I prefer a live band, because it is just as much work.?
She said although she had not produced an album before last year, she had a lot of songs that she had written over the years.
?I still plan to do a love CD with songs that I already have as well,? she said.
?I still do love songs even though I am in the church.?
They began recording the album back in April of this year, but it was not released until late October.
?It was released in time for Christmas,? she said. ?I think I will do a Christmas CD for next year.?
Ms Bean added that her former headmaster Mansfield Brock encouraged her to write.
?I would just go into his office and sit down and he really inspired me,? she said.
When Ms Bean is not writing or singing she is a front desk receptionist and is a busy mother.
Her CDs are on sale at the Phoenix, The Christian Bookstore and the Music Box.
