Thai massage spa opens on Reid Street
Stressed-out workers can relieve some of their built-up stress and tension thanks to a new Thai massage and herbal spa which has just opened in the centre of town.A stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Reid Street, Siam Thai Massage and Herbal Spa offers a peaceful sanctuary from the stresses and strains of modern life outside.The new business, which was launched by directors Sirilak Yodpanya and her husband Michael Ingham last Tuesday, offers everything from massage therapy to herbal body treatments, facials and waxing.In fact almost every ailment that you could think of will be catered for including arm and shoulder stiffness, back pain, waist and lower back pain, knee pain, ankle sprains, calf muscle pain, stiff neck, headaches and migraines and tennis elbow.And as an incentive to new customers it will be offering 20 percent off all treatments until the end of the monthMs Yodpanya was inspired by her cousin and a friend who both opened spas, the former in Thailand, and she decided to bring a little piece of her home country to Bermuda.“I have always been interested in Thai massage as it is part of my culture and is very traditional and seems to be very popular across the world,” she said.“Thai massage helps to stretch the body and muscles and to release the pain and tension, as well as helping with blood flow and circulation and relaxing you at the same time.“So I decided that it would be a good idea to bring an authentic Thai experience to Bermuda where you feel you are already relaxed when you walk in.”Ms Yodpanya had a vision for her new business after seeing the space which was vacated by Applied Computer Technologies when the company moved in the Power House in Par-la-Ville Road last year and set about decorating it with furnishings from Thailand including three Thai massage rooms, two spa treatment rooms and a row of foot massage chairs complete with low lighting and soft music. She will also be looking to offer hand spa, pedicure and manicure treatments in the future.Her team currently comprises one full-time receptionist Stephanie Riley and two part-time spa therapists, all Bermudians, and Thai spa therapist Natthaporn Jutharlee, who has 10 years experience of doing Thai massage working across the world, with plans to expand depending on demand. To add to the personal touch each therapist explains the treatment they are going to give and the benefits it offers.One of the most in vogue treatments has been the herbal spa, according to Ms Yodpanya, who said that the use of fresh fruit and vegetables, spices and oils in addition to herbs from Thailand, which has proved to be a popular alternative to using chemicals which are not always the best for your body.Such has been the interest in the new business that people have been dropping in and calling up to see what is on offer and book a service, with the owner of neighbours Coconut Rock Gary Silva popping in to get his back straightened out.Among the top treatments available are the Siam herbal compress the signature massage which offers a healing sensation, the sugar body treatment where clients can expect to be pampered, handled and enriched by the substance, and the golf leaf treatment.“In these tough times we can help to relieve the stress,” said Ms Yodpanya, who previously worked as an office administrator,” said Ms Yodpanya.“Right now everyone wants to live healthily and this is another way to help look after your body.”Siam Thai Massage and Herbal Spa is open from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 9pm.For more information or to book a treatment drop in at the first floor of 20 Williams House, Reid Street, contact 295-3999, email siamspa.bda[AT]gmail.com or visit Siam Thai Massage on Facebook.
