A royal experience
Royal Heights Guest House, located on scenic Lighthouse Hill in Southampton sits atop a steep hill with a view to die for, and it is delightful and affordable. After reaching the top, you exhale and take in the majestic beauty which offers a view from Dockyard to Hamilton with lots of turquoise bays scattered in Bermuda's Great Sound in between.
The proprietor Mrs. Jean Richardson says the Royal experience is exactly what Bermudian Hospitality is all about. Married for 37 years to her husband, Russell, the couple work well together providing a prime tourism business where they make guests feel like royalty. Mr. Richardson focuses on the outside of the home tending the gardens and pool and ensuring everything is immaculate. As business partners they make a powerful duo.
“We offer six comfortable rooms with private baths, air conditioning, television, a lovely pool and private patios, and our rates include continental breakfast. Guests frequently gather around the table and engage in chatter about their experiences each morning over hot coffee and tea, juices and fresh bakery items.
“Our views are totally spectacular and our guests, mostly couples, are amazed at the vast beauty observed from here,” she said.
“Because we are small we get the chance to interact with our clients on a personal level. If they want to play golf we have the Southampton Princess nearby, if they desire fine dining we are near great restaurants, and there's always the magnificent South Shore beaches for sunning or romantic walking.”
“We have visitors staying with us from all over the world, many of whom are repeat guests. Every June three couples take rooms and have been doing so for 22 years.
“We were excited to win the Merit Award when the Tourism Department first started giving it around 1996. We are relaxed and get a lot of guests who attend seminars or business meetings at the Southampton Princess.”
“Our staff are energetic and conscientious, they are young and work quickly. We all love meeting new people who enjoy their holiday. Our work is demanding but it is also enriching,” she concluded.
Those staying at Royal Heights, which is listed with the Department of Tourism as a licensed guesthouse, can expect to pay around $340 for a memorable weekend or a two-night stay from April 1 to November 30.
