Forum to discuss ageing
A forum covering ageing and legal issues is to be held tomorrow in Pembroke.
The forum is being hosted by the Peace and Social Justice Committee of the Roman Catholic Church of Bermuda. This will be the third in the series of “Ageing in Bermuda” forums. It is due to take place on Friday, April 8 at 7:30pm at St Theresa’s Church Hall on Laffan Street.
The presenters for the upcoming forum include barristers, Kim Wilson and John Barritt; the executive officer of consumer affairs, Karen Marshall; and, rent commissioner Inspector Dolores Beraldo-Vazquez.
Each presenter will have ten minutes on the stage to discuss the questions including: Can you explain the difference between a will, living will or healthcare power of attorney and/or other legal term the ageing person needs to know about? What, in your opinion, are the major legal concerns in Bermuda for ageing persons? What solutions do you recommend, or believe is the greatest asset the ageing population has to protect itself from legal “wrangling” from either individuals or community?
There will be a Q&A period as well as a group think tank where the public gets to offer comments and suggestions or can further address the panellists for more feedback.
The Peace and Social Justice Committee have conducted two forums on ageing thus far, the first was on Ageing and Employment and the second on Ageing and Health.
The next in the series will be on Ageing and Rest Homes/Eldercare and Ageing and End of Life. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.
