Princess praised for Pop Art
Architectural Digest has singled out a local hotel for its carefully curated decor.
The list, “17 Hotels with Amazing Art Collections”, features the Hamilton Princess, alongside big-name hotels in Hollywood, Hamburg and Hobart, Australia for its selection of modern art.
It reads: “Added as part of an ongoing $100 million renovation, the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club’s stunning collection features works by iconic 20th-century names such as Jeff Koons, whose Monkey (Blue) was just acquired.
“The hotel’s lobby displays Reigning Queens: Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, a print by Andy Warhol.”
Allan Federer, general manager of the hotel said: “As part of the $100 million renovation that brought several new, modern restaurants, Hamilton Princess is especially proud of its renowned art collection that is made up of personal art chosen by the owners, the Green family.”
He added that the contemporary works, when juxtaposed against the historic architecture, “enliven the space”.
In company with Warhol are works by Damien Hirst, Nelson Mandela, Banksy, Philippe Decrauzat, Shepard Fairey, Speedy Graphito, Zevs and Wang Guangyi.
The art can be viewed throughout the hotel and lobby, various restaurants, hallways and in hotel guest rooms and a guided art tour is open to the public on Saturdays at 10am.
Co-owner Alexander Green said: “It is always rewarding to see comments online and on social media from people appreciating the art.
“We have been very excited to grow and share our collection with the hotel guests as well as Bermuda as a whole.”
