Burgess rescues a point for Parish

Unbeatable: Burgess saved his side on several occasions

Hamilton Parish 0

PHC 0

Hamilton Parish earned a well-deserved point against PHC at Wellington Oval yesterday.

While PHC enjoyed the better scoring opportunities, they could not get past Nigel Burgess, the Parish goalkeeper,

Parish, who are bottom of the Premier Division, were anything but door mats as they were able to match PHC stride for stride during the first half.

With both teams playing a tight, smothering defence, scoring opportunities were few and far between.

PHC had the best chance to score when hardworking winger, Jahni Raynor, who gave Parish problems all afternoon on the left flank, eluded his defender.

Raynor took the ball into the penalty area and his deft pass found Shakir Smith unmarked. However, Smith blasted wide from six yards out.

PHC’s defenders managed to keep Parish’s strikers at bay during the first half with their best scoring opportunity going to Akil Warner. Unfortunately, Warner’s strike from just outside the box sailed over the crossbar.

Neither side were able to muster much firepower, but PHC came close to scoring twice in the dying stages of the game.

In the waning minutes, Burgess dived hard to the ground to repel a header for a corner in the 86th minute and he was called on again moments later when he saved a brilliant glancing header from substitute Casey Castle, helping his side earn a well-deserved point.
