Air France flight diverted to Bermuda

An Air France flight yesterday landed safely in Bermuda after being diverted due to suspected smoke in the cabin.

A police spokesman said the flight, which was en route from France to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic with 464 passengers, was diverted to Bermuda because of a report of smoke in the aircraft.

Emergency protocols were put in place at the St David’s roundabout and at the roundabout at the entrance to LF Wade international airport. The traffic diversions were lifted after the aircraft landed safely at about 4.45pm. As of press time last night, a government spokeswoman said that all of the passengers had been deplaned and were waiting in the departures lounge while the aircraft was being assessed. Provisional plans were also being made with hotels in case the passengers were required to stay overnight.
