A campaign to help migrants fleeing war-torn Syria by providing them with slings has been deemed a success by organisers.

Lexi Rego, who helped to organise the local campaign, said 60 slings and baby carriers had been donated, along with $380 to help to cover the cost of shipping the items.

“I am so touched by all who donated,” Ms Rego said. “I loved hearing that people went into The Nest [Maternity and Baby Store] and purchased a new one just to donate it.”

The drive was launched last month in response to international news reports about millions of Syrians fleeing their homes to escape civil war in the country.

The Facebook group Bermuda Cares: Slings for Refugees was formed after Krisia Justensen, a Bermudian living in Denmark, was informed that there was a need for baby carriers to assist the refugees.
