The Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust will reach out to more people by dividing next year’s funds between more charities, organisers say.Proceeds from the 2011 Catlin End-to-End event will go to 11 local charities, with seniors, young people and those with medical needs top of the list.On May 7, 2,500 participants will be “walking, cycling or otherwise making their way across Bermuda”, said End-to-End chairwoman Anne Mello.“The dollars they raise from pledge money results in up to $300,000 to give to local charities.”Ms Mello said the economic recession was a burden on organisations trying to help the community.“The charities applying for our support are themselves addressing growing demand for their services while the funds they need to do so are shrinking.”She said the Catlin End-to-End normally gives to five or six charities in Bermuda, but for next year the Trust wanted to spread its proceeds more evenly.Meals on Wheels will receive the biggest share. The End-to-End has also pledged support to life skills training for young people, a summer programme for special needs children and three charities that assist with serious medical conditions.
