Police deserve praise for robbery response

Dear Sir,

I wonder often if we have an aversion to good news and positive developments in Bermuda life.

Recently we had an armed robbery at the Bank of Butterfield’s St George branch, with a very encouraging outcome due to the most commendable Police work.

The response time appeared to be reasonable and appropriate given the very serious nature of this criminal act.

The apprehension of a suspect with such amazing swiftness has to be most pleasing to (Police Commisioner) Mr DeSilva, given the normal challenges that law enforcement are faced with on a daily basis.

I do not see this as a reason to highlight the need for a full-time police station, which has some merit. All too often there is the need for politicians to politic without regard for seizing the moment to enjoy something we can all feel good about.

The authorities carried out their duties with professionalism and ability, with results we would want to see more of in other areas.

This is just great Police work worthy of sincere congratulations to our finest in making the country safer for us all.

This is just one example of what is good in this country where constant complaints abound.

This is a bad event with a good outcome — let’s relish the moment and see this as reason for optimism going forward.
