Pembroke man charged with conspiring to shoot Troy (Yankee) Rawlins

A 24-year-old Pembroke man was yesterday charged with conspiring to shoot Raymond Troy 'Yankee' Rawlins last year. Mr. Rawlins was shot dead on August 9, but yesterday amid tight security at Magistrates' Court, Alvone Maybury was charged in connection with an incident last year.

He was charged with having a firearm and bullets in his possession on December 16, with conspiring with Anthony Swan and others not before the courts to use a firearm to commit an indictable offence, carrying a firearm to commit an indictable offence, discharging a firearm and unlawfully shooting a loaded firearm at Mr. Rawlins with intent to do grievous bodily harm between December 12 and 16.

In a separate case, Swan, 22, was charged with wounding Mr. Rawlins, 48, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm by shooting at him on Court Street, Pembroke, on December 16 last year. Swan was also charged with possessing a gun and ammunition, unlawfully discharging a firearm, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and aggravated taking of a motorcycle before driving it dangerously.

Maybury was remanded into custody by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner. He was represented by lawyer Llewelyn Peniston and will reappear on September 16 for mention.

Last month David Cox, of Club Road, was charged with the premeditated murder of Mr. Rawlins, and using a firearm to commit murder.

Mr. Rawlins, 48, was shot in the entrance of the Spinning Wheel nightclub, on Court Street.
