Rugby player settles out of court

A New Zealand rugby player arrested on Saturday for a suspected breaking and entering has not been charged as the matter was settled out of court.

A spokesman of the Bermuda Police Service said yesterday that the Classic All Black will not be going to court, after he was arrested for trying to enter a Fairyland Road, Pembroke, home which he thought was his temporary residence after a drinking spree.

The World Rugby Classic is a forum for world famous players from eight countries ? Argentina, Australia, Canada, England (Classic Lions), France, South Africa, United States and New Zealand ? to travel to Bermuda to compete annually.

"I have spoken with the Kiwi team and a representative of the home and they certainly did not want it to go any further as the damage was paid," World Rugby Classic organiser John Kane said yesterday. "It was strange. He got up on a gate to get over a wall. But the gate collapsed and a painting was damaged."

Mr. Kane said the painting was probably on a patio. "The guy was totally lost," Mr. Kane said.

"I don't even think he was supposed to be staying in Hamilton. He was supposed to be staying in Warwick somewhere."
