Last chance to see Photographic exhibitsl Today is the last day to view the twin photographic exhibitions in the Bermuda Society of Arts' gallery at City Hall. The Onion (main) gallery is hosting the juried annual exhibition of works by the Island's diverse range of professional and amateur photographers, while the adjacent Edinburgh Gallery features works by some of the great photographic masters, including Ansel Adams, Ed Weston, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Philippe Halsman, all from the private collection of well-known Bermudian photographer Scott Stallard. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free.

BNG lunchtime lecture today

l Arizona artist Michael Ives returns to Bermuda to host the Bermuda National Gallery's lunchtime lecture today. He will show two short films about the creation of a painting and a piece of folk art, beginning at 12.30 p.m. Mr. Ives is a former Masterworks Foundation artist-in-residence, and one of the American southwest's most successful artists. Prints of his work will be on sale, and he will also give some away to members of the audience as door prizes. For more on Mr. Ives see website www.ivesart.com

Bootsie to tickle mothers' funny bones

Popular local comedian Bootsie aims to have mothers rolling in the aisles with his all-new show on Mother's Day at the Devonshire Recreation Club hall. Joining him will be the Seabreeze Salsa Dancers, vocalist Ryan Bean and others. Showtime is 6.30 p.m., and tickets ($25) are available from 27th Century Boutique. For further information ( 297-1279.

New show at Kafu Gallery

l A mixed media exhibition of works by Bermuda artists opens at the Kafu Gallery, 8 Parliament Street (opposite Atlantis), on Friday. Entitled 'Kafu, B-side, 2004', it will feature works entered but not included in the current Bacardi Biennial exhibition of contemporary art at the Bermuda National Gallery. Participating artists and photographers are expected to include such well-known names as Betsy Mulderig, Sharon Wilson, Andrea Carter, Deanne DeSilva, Bruce Stuart, Kevin Morris, Jason Jones, Mark Lombardi, Charles Anderson, Carmel Bryne, Elizabeth Trott, Sheilagh Head, Caroline Troncossi, Otto Trott, Simon Hodgson, Manuel Palacio, and gallery owner Glen Wilks. Edwin M.E. Smith at Masterworks

l Bermuda College senior lecturer in art and design, Edwin M.E. Smith, is the latest artist to be featured in the Masterworks Foundation's 'Artist Up Front...Street' series. His mixed media exhibition at the Bermuda House Lane gallery features 16 paintings and drawings, eight of which are based on individual, three-word lines from a favourite poem by Gwendolyn Brooks, 'We Real Cool', and from which the pieces take their titles. The exhibition continues through May 13.
