Digicel has been hit by an ongoing, island-wide technical issue affecting its customers including the police service and hospital.

The Bermuda Police Service said it is experiencing issues with its phone lines including the main police number 911.

A spokesman for the BPS advised that until further notice, members of the public should use the following telephone numbers instead: 755-1625; 755-1622; 755-1623; or 755-1624.

Police said they would provide an update as soon as possible.

Bermuda Hospitals Board confirmed that the outage is impacting 911 calls, adding: “Members of the public with medical emergencies can contact the Emergency Department at 239-1301.

“We will issue an update when 911 is running again.”

Butterfield Bank issued an announcement to its customers that a number of its phone lines are temporarily out of service because of the problem.

A spokesman for Butterfield told customers if they need immediate assistance they should call the main number 295- 1111 which is working as normal.

The spokesman added: “To speak with a specific department or individual, please reach out via e-mail, mobile phone or by calling the contact centre 295-1111, option 6. They will be able to connect you via our internal system.

“We will update you once we receive confirmation from Digicel that phone service has been fully restored.”
