Cardinals fight back to end Swifts dominance

Women’s B LeagueRavens B 2 Canaries B 1Ravens’ Tracy Stewart opened the scoring after three minutes from a field goal before Carolyn Soares doubled their lead. Canaries’ Pip Jones hit the net in the final minute of the game with a field goal to pull one back for Canaries.Swifts B 2 Cardinals B 3The ‘B’ League champions Swifts lost their first game ever to the Cardinals.Swifts opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Ryanne Bardgett converted from the top right of the circle. Cardinals then equalised with a textbook play which was finished off by Denise Downey.Cardinals’ second goal came from a penalty corner in the 56th minute which was converted by Katie Flath. Downey then struck again for Cardinals to male it 3-1. Swifts continued to fight back and Bardgett scored her 30th league goal of the season in the 68th minute, but it was too little too late.Bluebirds B 5 –Longtail Canaries B 0The last game of the season saw Bluebirds thrash Canaries.The first goal came in the 3rd minute from a Deborah Sagur’s cross which found Laura Bardgett who tapped home.Bardgett then picked up the ball at the top of the circle and hit the ball over to the back post where Kourtney Fassler was waiting to steer the ball in.In the second half, Fassler struck again before Bargett then added her second. The final goal of the game came from a penalty corner when Bardgett’s initial strike was deflected from the keeper’s pads, collected by Maria Harris who fed captain Kris Soares who found the net.Women’s A LeagueWildcats A 0 Ravens A 4Four minutes into the second half Ravens’ Megan Troake executed a shot from a penalty corner to put them in front.Ravens then added two more with field goals from Megan Leitch and Sharmini Samuels. In the 66th minute Georgia Harris completed the rout.Canaries A 4 Budgies A 2Canaries’ Lisa Marshall scored a field goal in the 7th minute to take the lead.Early in the second half, Marshall struck home a penalty to make it 2-0.Canaries scored their third goal in the 50th minute from a penalty corner struck home by Elizabeth Duncan.Marshall then completed her hat-trick from a field goal. Budgies kept fighting and got on the scoresheet in the 62nd minute when Erica Furtado scored from a penalty corner, and three minutes later Jaselle Smith scored her team’s second from a field goal.Swallows A 5 Swifts A 0With six players missing, Swifts used three 13-year-olds’ Taj Branch, Asha Trott and Azari Thomas.Swallows’ Jennifer Chisnall gave her team the lead in the 11th minute from a penalty corner, and Maria Dobinson doubled the lead in the 16th minute from a field goal.Elizabeth Stewart then added a third from a penalty corner to give Swallows a 3-0 lead at the interval.Swallows added an open play goal in the 58th minute through Lisa LeBlanc, before Stewart converted her second penalty corner of the game.
