The Bermuda Union of Teachers is hosting a weight loss competition for its members. The teams can be comprised of teachers from different schools and different levels, for example, Primary, Middle and High. For those not needing to lose weight they can participate as a coach in the team category.

The competition kicks off on April 13. The registration for deadline is 5pm on April 10 or further information and application forms please contact the BUT.

Young Observer will be following the “In It To Win It” team during the challenge. This team comprises Wendell Smith, Irvin Romaine and Clay Smith — all Cup Match cricketers and educators.

There are three categories: Male, Female and Team. The first prize for the male and female category is $1,000, second place is $600 and third place is $400. The winning team (participants and a coach) will share $2,000.

Here are the competition rules:

• The competition is for BUT members only.

• The winners will be determined by the highest amount of “percentage body fat” lost. This will be recorded to the decimal point(s).

• In the event of a tie, a deciding factor is the higher amount of inches lost at the waistline.

• Once the competition begins with the weigh-ins, no individual will be allowed to transfer to a different team.

• All participants, inclusive of the coaches, can only be a member of one team.

• If an individual weighs in on the first day of weigh-ins, (April 13), he/she must also weigh in on the first day of post weigh-ins (June 23). If exceptional circumstances exist regarding weigh-in dates, for example, overseas/hospitalisation please call the BUT office.

• The individual who is listed as the team coach cannot change to become a weight-loss competitor. The listed coach, at registration time, must remain as such.

• No one is permitted to perform his/her own measurement operations at the weigh-ins.

• The weigh-ins will be performed at one of the following locations: Francis Patton Primary, West Pembroke Primary or TN Tatem.

• The dates for these weigh-ins will be: April 13 and June 23 or April 14 and June 24, 2015 from 3.45pm and 5.15pm.
