More development planned for Hamilton

Developers have applied for final planning permission to build two more multi-storey office buildings in the City of Hamilton.

Milner Holdings Ltd. has applied to build a new three-storey office building extension on the same lot as ?Belair? on 42 Victoria Street.

?Belair? was built in 1880 as a private residence, but is now being used as an office for law firm Cox Hallett and Wilkinson.

However the law firm?s founder, William Cox, has promised that the antique building will not be demolished.

?Cox Hallett and Wilkinson is prospering and expanding and want more office space,? Mr. Cox said. ?The extension is going to be along the western boundary wall with the Bermuda Telephone Company building?.

The second multi-storey office building will be on Front Street.

F&E Holdings Limited has sought planning approval to build a six-storey commercial office building on the site of an old HWP shop and warehouse at 131 Front Street.

The building will feature a health club, as well as retail and office space. The warehouse currently has an annual rental value of $238,000. HWP?s chief operating officer Alan Brooks said the building is now owned by Frank Arnold of Arnold?s Market but Mr. Arnold refused to comment on the plans.

Evan and Judy Smith have applied to expand the Learning Express Academy at 43, First Avenue, Pembroke.

Mr. Evans said the Academy currently has room for 40 students but they are planning to build two additional classrooms and additional toilets upstairs. They also applied for new parking facilities and lunch area.

St. Anne?s Church have submitted an in-principle planning application to change the use of 42 Horseshoe Road, Southampton, from church-use (social institutional) to a new two-bedroom home.

Puisne Judge Norma-Wade Miller has sought planning approval to convert 9, Turtle Bay Lane, Southampton, from a residence to tourist accommodations.

The Bermuda Telephone Company wants to increase the existing floor area at 30 Victoria Street, Hamilton by extending the existing floor slabs and enclosing the third floor terrace.

Shadow Environment Minister Cole Simons and Nelson Simons want to build six horse stables at 119 South Shore Road, Warwick.

Dennis Fagundo, project manager of D&J Construction, has applied for planning approval to build a second-storey addition to an existing warehouse on North Street, Hamilton.
