American tourists robbed by man brandishing machete

Two female American tourists were robbed by a machete-wielding mugger in St. George?s on Thursday night.

The victims, aged 50 and 49, had left the White Horse Tavern at about 11.15 p.m. and were walking along Naval Tanks Hill towards Tobacco Bay when they were approached by the machete-brandishing thug.

He demanded they give him the handbag they were carrying. The young man then pushed the 50-year-old woman to the ground and snatched the handbag before running off. She sustained bruising to her left arm and lost a black and green bag containing $35, a silver Cingular cellular phone and personal items.

The suspect is described as an 18-year-old black male, approximately 5 ft. 6 ins, of slim build, wearing shades, a baseball cap, a red sports jersey and long blue jeans.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George?s Criminal Investigation Unit on 297 1122.

And a biker put a Sandys parish couple through a terrifying ordeal shortly after midnight on Friday.

The victims, a 35-year-old Sandy?s parish man and a 40-year-old Sandy?s parish woman, said they were riding their rental cycle on Middle Road at around 12.25 a.m. between White?s Supermarket and the Heron Bay Market Place when a man rode alongside and attempted to grab a purse from the cycle?s basket but was unsuccessful.

The suspect then tried to knock the couple off their rental cycle several times but was also unsuccessful.

Before riding off, the suspect demanded $20 from the couple, who refused to give him any money.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a grey helmet with a full face visor. He was riding a grey scooter with no lights on to the front or rear.

The victims were not injured and nothing was taken during the incident. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234 1010.
