Two teenage girls missing, Police issue advisories
Police have issued two advisories to the public to be on the lookout for two teenage girls who have separately gone missing in recent days.
Fourteen year old Tahira Cross of Warwick was last seen at her grandmother?s Sandy?s Parish home late Monday night. She is brown skinned, five foot four and about 130 pounds.
Tahira was last seen wearing blue Jean Capri pants, a short sleeve stripped pink shirt and her hair was in a bun.
Thirteen year old Lashunde Edwards is described as light brown skinned and five feet tall with a distinctive black birthmark on her left arm. She is Sandy?s Middle School student who usually wears her hair in a ponytail.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about Tahira or Lashunde to contact the Juvenile & Domestic Crime Unit at 199-4477.
GBH defendant changes his plea as trial starts
The second day of the Supreme Court grievous bodily harm trial of John Sinclair Anderson took a surprise turn on Tuesday when the defendant changed his plea to guilty.
Anderson, 38, of St. Monica?s Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Vincent Tuzo on October 15, 2005.
He also admitted to having an article with a blade or point ? namely a machete ? on Court Street on the same date.
The forewoman of a six-woman, six-man jury was directed by Puisne Judge Norma Wade-Miller on Tuesday to find Anderson guilty on both counts due to his own confession.
Crown counsel was Wayne Caines was prosecuting the case before Mrs. Justice Wade-Miller and Liz Christopher represented Anderson.
Mrs. Justice Wade-Miller ordered a Social Inquiry Report and a Bermuda Assessment Referrals Centre (BARC) report on Anderson and remanded Anderson into custody at least until August 1, when a sentencing date to be set.
$1,000 fine for cursing officers
A Sandy?s man who shouted offensive words to Police officers when he was aboard a party boat received a $1000 fine yesterday in Magistrates? Court.
Haile Maskal Caines, 25, of Phillpott Hill Drive, pleaded guilty to using offensive words towards Police officers.
The incident occurred on at 2.35 p.m. on June 11 at Albouy?s Point. The defendant was aboard the MV on the upper level when he shouted to officers. ?F**k you cop. F**king p***y. Come to Dockyard and f**king arrest me?.
When Caines departed the boat, he was arrested by officers.
When asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner if he had an explanation, Caines said: ?I?m sorry. I?ll quit drinking.?
Search of home leads to cannabis find
A Pembroke man pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug after Police searched his home and found plant like material.
Melchisedec Tafari Gibbons, 26, of Rambling Lane was approached by officers on February 23 after receiving information that he might be in possession of narcotics.
The officers informed the defendant that he would be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. A search was conducted and officers turned up empty handed.
Officers produced a search warrant and informed the defendant that they were going to search his residence. At his Rambling Lane home, officers found a twist containing plant like material with the value of 0.12 grams of cannabis. Gibbons was fined $1000 or serve three months in default of payment.
