The time for talk is over

Time to act: A reader is urging Finance Minister Bob Richards and Premier Michael Dunkley along with the rest of the Government to cut public spending (File photo)

Dear Sir,

I bleed OBA red. Despite my lifelong policy of never saying never, I would never vote for the PLP as long as the likes of Marc Bean, David Burt and Zane DeSilva represent their brains trust.

I fully understand and appreciate the financial situation we are in, why we are in it, and the OBA’s position as it relates to their mandate to lead and solve.

I read and I understood the Budget and I am sympathetic to the OBA.

Having said that, the OBA, at this juncture, has let us down — I mean myself, all the workers and voters who put you in there, wanted you to lead, solve and act.

It is hard to listen to more than two years of analysis, not only about the problem but also of the solution, and not begin to think that just maybe — since the OBA leaders seem to know where we are — they might pull the trigger.

What is it with the OBA? Do you know something more than what you’re saying constantly? Is the position really as dire as you define? Are you terrified of the political consequences? Are you waiting for some gift from above?

Why don’t you do what you tell us daily has to be done? Why don’t you just do what every person — union member or not — knows is the solution?

When are you going to cut public spending and payroll? When are you going to make the tough decision? If nothing else, cut the analysis and tell us why you just want to talk.

Mr Dunkley and OBA MPs, we are putty in your hands. You have the inside knowledge but you tell us one thing and then you seem to be terrified to do what you must do.

I feel your pain. The ramifications of doing what you must do include being attacked and possibly ousted by the PLP.

But if you were not prepared to make the call, what in God’s holy name was the point of all that political blather leading to 2012?

The time for talking and analysis is done. The time to act is here.
