Umpire’s course for beginners

Top official: Roger Dill, the Island's top umpire, will be running a coaching course for those interested in learning the job

The Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association will be holding a free beginner’s umpires course every Wednesday for eight weeks starting on March 11 at the Bermuda Cricket Board office from 6pm to 7.30pm.

The course is open to anyone interested in taking up umpiring, and you do not need to have played the game to participate.

Roger Dill, the Island’s top umpire, who has officiated for many years at local and international level will run the course.

Dill became the first Associate umpire to officiate in a game involving a full member team, Zimbabwe against Canada in 2006.

Later that same year he was invited to umpire a one-day international between England and Ireland. Dill has umpired 25 ODI matches, including England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabw and 11 ICC Intercontinental Cups matches. He also officiated at the Under 19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2006 and Malaysia in 2008.
