Fireworks sparked gunfire reports

Reports of gun shots in the East End this week have been dismissed as fireworks following a Police investigation.

A Police spokesman said this morning: “For the last two nights there have been reports of gun shots being heard in the eastern end of the island.

“After initial inquires it has been ascertained that a 51-year-old male in the Pieces of Eight Lane area for the last two nights has been setting off fire works. The matter is now being managed by eastern area officers.”

Police later confirmed that the man, identified as a guest worker, has been arrested and is expected to appear in court in the near future.

On early Friday morning, Police said they attended the Barrack Hill area following reports of gunshots, however no forensic evidence had been found at that time to substantiate the reports.
