On the Arts Scene

The lobby of ACE Global Headquarters is the setting for an exhibition of photographs taken by Bermudian Peter Harron of the Twin Towers in New York during their construction and after last year's tragedy. Mr. Harron, a resident of Connecticut, felt compelled to return to the site and record the emotions of residents and visitors expressed through the spontaneous memorials which appeared around New York City. Many employees in ACE's worldwide network of offices lost colleagues who worked in the Twin Towers, and by hosting this exhibition the company reinforces its support for the survivors, and shows sympathy for everyone who lost family and friends by keeping their memory alive.

Mr. Harron's work also forms part of a travelling photography exhibition of the September 11 tragedy, entitled 'Here is New York', proceeds of which go to the Children's Aid Society WTC Relief Fund.

The photographer has captured and memorialised many poignant images, each telling a story. His black and white photographs of Tall Ships were shown in 2000 at ACE's Atrium Gallery in its former headquarters building.

Nine aspiring artists, who are all pastel students of professional artist Sharon Wilson, are taking part in the latest Masterworks' 'Artists Up Front ...Street' exhibition, whose opening reception takes place on Friday. They are Leza Stovell, Tracey Berell, Alca Maranzana, Michelle McKenzie, Brenda Bridgewater, Francisca Ward, Anthy Hellmer and Tony Landy. The exhibition will continue through September 19, and be followed on September 20 by Rhona Emmerson.

For further information on both of the above see today's Bermuda Calendar Exhibitions section.

Tickets are now available for Masterworks' evening cruise on the Coral Sea to Dockyard to view the watercolours of its current artist-in-residence, James Toogood. The boat will leave Albouys Point at 6 p.m. on September 12 and a picnic supper will be provided. Mr. Toogood's love of Bermuda is reflected in the passion he puts into his paintings, and he has produced an impressive body of work during his three-month stay.
