Author, expert on race to speak at CURE anniversary
The Commission for Unity and Racial Equality (CURE) is collaborating with the National Association for Reconciliation to bring international speaker Tim Wise to Bermuda.
Mr. Wise, author of the acclaimed book White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son will visit as part of the CURE's tenth anniversary celebrations.
The Director of the Association for White Anti-Racist Education in Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Wise has spoken in 48 US states and on over 350 college campuses including Harvard and Stanford.
Members of Bermuda's white community are invited to join him at a 'White on White' forum discussing his journey as an advocate at Cathedral Hall, Court Street, Hamilton at 7p.m. on October 11.
Mr. Wise will go on to give the key note address and participate in a question-and-answer session at a lunchtime forum entitled ' A Conversation with Tim Wise' at the Bermuda National Gallery, City Hall, Hamilton, between 12 and 2.30 p.m. on October 12.
That evening, at 8 p.m., he will speak on the subject of racial equality and anti-discrimination during a community meeting and discussion at St. Paul's Centennial AME Church.
Myra Virgil, CURE Executive Officer said: "We expect these sessions to be dynamic and engaging and informed by both Tim's input and that of the other participants."
CURE is also set to hold it's first Annual Excellence Awards for employers who promote equality of opportunity in the workplace as part of the anniversary celebrations.
