Wolves and BAA were the biggest winners at the weekend in the First Division with all of their promotion rivals dropping precious points.Second placed Flanagan’s Onions and third placed X’Roads were both defeated, leaving the race for the second and final promotion spot up for grabs.Leaders Wolves beat Somerset Eagles 3-1 on Friday night to open up a two point gap at the top over Onions with a game in hand, while BAA’s bye means they also have a game in hand, and are only one point behind X’Roads.BAA and Wolves lock horns this weekend in what should now be an intriguing encounter.Despite Wolves moving two points clear at the top of the table, skipper Jared Peniston still believes there are plenty of twists and turns ahead in the business end of the season.“It’s very important that we keep our focus,” said Peniston. “Mathematically if we win the next three league games we are promoted, but the next three league matches against are against the top teams in the league BAA, X’Roads and Flanagans.“Promotion is our biggest goal, so we don’t want to get complacent now and destroy our chances of promotion.“Our next opponents, BAA, are on a good run and they as well don’t want to be stopped from getting promotion.“BAA has some good youngsters that can play and I know that they want to beat us, so it should be a good game and a good test on Wolves’ character.”Wolves goalscorers were Vincent Minors Jr, Tamauri Tucker, and Lamelle Paynter, while Jonte Pearson grabbed Eagles’ goal.Onions suffered the biggest shock of the day, losing at home to Hamilton Parish, who are now back into the promotion hunt.Devon Rogers, Kai Hollis and an own goal gave the visitors the win, while skipper Keston Lewis scored for the hosts.Menelik Rudo scored Young Men’s Social Club goal in their 1-0 win over X’Roads at Bernard Park.Zuri Darrell scored a hat-trick as Devonshire Colts blew away Paget 8-0 at Police Field.Terry Foote, skipper Lozendro Symonds, Keimo Gardener, and Robert Williams were also on target for Colts.
