Regiment soldiers arrested at Airport
Three Bermuda Regiment soldiers were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of importing drugs after coming back from an annual training camp in Jamaica, Police said on Tuesday.
Police Media Spokesman Dwayne Caines said the soldiers were arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act at the Bermuda International Airport on Saturday.
Mr. Caines said the youngest was 24, the other two were 26 and 29 respectively. He added the three privates were released on bail to appear in court later.
Materials seized will be sent to a Government analyst.
Regiment Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Edward Lamb said the trio may face further punishment by the Regiment if convicted in court. ?I do reserve the right to take further punitive measures as I see fit,? he said.
The Commanding Officer had only interviewed one of the arrested soldiers so far ? the man had been employed to work at the Regiment Headquarters, Warwick Camp.
Lt. Col. Lamb said Regiment soldiers receive repeated drug warnings since they are searched twice in Jamaica, including with Police dogs, and once on their return in Bermuda.
