Bermuda face Windies stars

Recreation Ground to face a batting-rich Leeward Islands today in the Red Stripe Bowl one-day tournament.

Indeed Bermuda's bowlers will want to be on a strict line against the Caribbean country that boasts the likes of current and former West Indies batsmen Ridley Jacobs, Stuart Williams, Sylvester Joseph and Keith Arthurton.

Yesterday saw the local squad spend time in the nets at the Caribbean Cricket Centre fine-tuning their game. The team's spirits were reportedly high and members were eager for a first taste of action.

Caretaker coach Winston Reid presided over the morning net session, as newly appointed national coach Roland Butcher was due in later in the afternoon from England.

Charlie Marshall will control the reins as skipper for the tournament, with Clay Smith in the role of vice captain Bermuda's exact line-up for today's match was unavailable, however, their opponents' cricket selectors have named a predicated 14-man squad under a new captain for the competition.

Big hitting wicket-keeper/batsman Jacobs will lead the side, with his deputy being the man he is replacing, Stuart Williams. Jacobs had captained the Leewards in three matches of last season's four-day Busta Cup competition.

Windies selectees, batsman Sylvester Joseph and medium-pacer Kerry Jeremy, have been included in the squad after they played in the Caribbean side's loss to Sri Lanka in a preliminary match of the ICC Knockout Trophy tournament in Nairobi last week.
