OTCC leaders tour the Island
Caribbean Government representatives were treated to a tour of Commissioner's House at the Royal Naval Dockyard over the weekend.
Dr. Ed Harris, National Museum of Bermuda Executive Director, gave the delegation a guided tour of the building's many artifacts and exhibits including Graham Foster's magnificent 1,000-square foot mural illustrating Bermuda's entire human history from the 1500s to today.
The delegation was also provided with a historical account by Dr. Harris of the design and building of the limestone structure and the links between Bermuda and the West Indies.
Following the tour MP Walter Lister hosted a lunch along with Dennis and Terry Lister at the Commissioner's House.
Mr. Lister said: "The event went extremely well. I encouraged the delegates not to remain overseas territories but to prepare themselves and their people to assume their rightful position among the other nations of the world.
"Colonialism is a holdover from a previous century which really has no place in today's world."
Meanwhile, Premier Ewart Brown spoke at the farewell dinner and said: "Caribbean peoples, be they independent or under colonial rule, have a connection that transcends constitutional status.
"These harsh economic times have made us grow already. I describe it as growth because the more self-reliant we become the greater the likelihood of ultimate constitutional maturity."
The Government heads included representatives of the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and Montserrat.
