International businesswomen group together after attacks

Fresh from their summer break, members of the Women in International Trade - Bermuda (Wit-BD) gathered for their monthly lunch at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club last week and discussed "how to be effective in uncertain times".

Group president Frederica Forth spoke on this issue following the recent tragic events in the US.

She said the organisation is made up of very experienced women from all professions such as insurance, accounting, banking and hospitality and they discussed how they could use this pool of experience to help those who may be experiencing difficulty.

"We talked about how we can help each other and our colleagues based on uncertainty," said Ms Forth.

She gave the example that if someone was having difficulty with credit or accounting, then their members could share their experience to resolve the situation.

"The group were in agreement that this is how we can be effective," said Ms Forth.

The Bermuda Chapter of Women in International Trade formed in May 1995 and hosted an international annual convention a year later.

The focus of Wit-BD is to promote international trade, establish and expand international business contracts, particularly among women, as well as expand awareness and skills.

To achieve these goals, there is always a period of networking before lunches and functions where women can meet new people, establish new business contacts, get help or find some one to help.

The international organisation was formed in 1989 and has thousands of members in countries such as the US, Canada, Europe and Japan, who belong to more than 20 chapters.
