'Several young men' held in murder probe
Police in Barbados are questioning several men in connection with the murder of a Bermuda narcotics officer?s two sons.
Justin and William Greene ? the children of Det. Con. Ronald Greene of Bermuda Police and CedarBridge Academy teacher Margo Greene ? were knifed to death outside a nightclub in Barbados in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A post-mortem carried out yesterday showed that they died of shock and haemorrhage as a result of stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.
Inspector Barry Hunte, of the Royal Barbados Police, told last night that ?several young men? had been taken into custody in connection with the killings. He would not say how many men were being questioned.
?We mounted an intense investigation from yesterday morning when we went to the scene,? he said. ?To date we have taken several young men into custody. These men are assisting with investigations. They are presently being treated as persons of interest.?
He said Justin, 21, and William, 25, from St. Joseph?s parish in Barbados, had been involved in a dispute with a group of other men outside a nightclub on Cavans Lane, Bridgetown.
?Our investigations have been going on around the clock. We are satisfied with the direction and development in respect of this investigation. We are satisfied with the progress we have made.?
Bermuda Police Service has sent its condolences to Det. Con. Greene. A statement was issued which read: ?On behalf of the Commissioner of Police George Jackson and the Bermuda Police Service we extend our sincerest condolences to our colleague Det. Con. Ronald Greene and his family following the tragic loss of Det. Con. Greene?s sons Justin and William.
?Our thoughts and prayers are with Det. Con. Greene and his family during this difficult time.? Det. Con. Greene, of Smith?s, is believed to have two other children from his current marriage to a fellow Police officer. It is understood that his sons in Barbados were from a previous relationship with Margo Greene. He was still too upset to speak to last night. Margo Greene left yesterday morning for Barbados.
