Detroy destroys tourists

Caymans 115-5 Detroy Smith hammered 89 and Christino Smith 71 as Hamilton Parish inflicted the third loss on the touring under-15 Cayman Islands cricket team at Sea Breeze Oval yesterday.

The local batsmen made the Cayman bowlers toil after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Brandon Trott (18) and Christino Smith put on 22 for the first wicket before Trott departed.

Christino Smith hit nine fours and a six before he was next out, but the runs kept flowing as Detroy Smith and Kujuan Simons shared in a third wicket stand of 143.

Detroy Smith stroked seven fours and three sixes in his knock and Simons batted through the remainder of the innings for an unbeaten 58, including three fours and two sixes. Taurean Manders contributed a useful 30 late in the innings as he and Simons added 41 for the sixth wicket.

Benjamin Cupid claimed three wickets for an expensive 65 runs in seven overs while Omar Willis had two for 66 from his allotted eight overs.

The Caymans never made a push for the runs, choosing instead to occupy the crease for the 40 overs, as they replied with 115-5 with opener Ricardo Roach scoring 27 not out and Omar Bryan 21 not out.

Manders was the only Hamilton Parish bowler taking more than one wicket, finishing with two for 10 from his four overs. In total Parish used 10 bowlers.

The tour continues today with a match at Southampton Oval against the West Select.

The final three rounds of Premier League cricket have all been put back a week to accomodate the rescheduling of the Knockout Cup quarter-final matches which were rained out on July 15.

Those matches -- Southampton v PHC, St. George's v Western Stars, Bailey's Bay-Social Club and Somerset-Cleveland -- will now be played on August 13, forcing the league matches for that date to be put back a week to August 20.

Matches originally scheduled for August 20 and 27 have also been put back seven days, as have the Knockout Cup semi-finals which will now take place on September 10. The KO Cup final is now slated for September 24.
