Trojans batter BAA

All three teams from the western end of the Island with promotion potential in the First Division won their matches yesterday, Somerset Eagles pulling off a stunning 3-0 triumph over joint-leaders St. David's at Lord's.

On a day when football featured just First Division sides Ireland Rangers and Somerset Trojans also won their away games.

St. David's 0 Eagles 3

Eagles were able to solidify their place at the top half of the tables with maximum points at Lord's, thanks to first-half goals from Aldolphus Lambert and Darren Dowling - the latter putting the game out of reach of the home side when he firmly headed home a cross from the left for Eagles' third goal.

St. David's fought hard and remained competitive throughout but they always found the going tough against a steady Eagles' defence.

Paget 2 Ireland Rangers 8

At White Hill visitors Ireland Rangers stormed to a comfortable win with Paget's goalkeeper Pablo Vincent preventing Rangers from adding several more goals.

Paget were competitive in the opening half when they restricted their opponents to a 2-1 lead but after the break nothing could stop the Rangers who showed much of the spark of their surprise mid-week win over Somerset Trojans.

Leading the goal spree was Henry Santucci with a hat-trick while Jonathan Bean found the net on two occasions.

Also among the scorers were Andre Outerbridge, Janson Rogers and substitute Nathan Darrell.

BAA 0 Somerset Trojans 3

At BAA the home side's lack of finishing prowess enabled the West Enders to coast to victory.

BAA fought hard in the opening half and held the Trojans to a mere 1-0 lead at the interval; the goal was one of three from striker Adrian Burrows who got the opener after just 11 minutes.

BAA goalkeeper Alton Roberts was kept busy in the second half with Burrows scoring after 57 and 75 minutes while in sharp contrast Timmy Figureido in the Trojans' goal could have gone to sleep with the BAA attack lacklustre.

Prospect 0 St. George's 1

Visiting St. George's came away with maximum points also from their away game at Prospect, brushing aside Prospect at Police field with a goal after 36 minutes from Allan Douglas Jr.

In the other game Wolves edged X-Roads 2-1 at Devonshire Rec.
