A Pembroke man denied charges put to him at Supreme Court yesterday that he possessed a gun and thousands of dollars worth of drugs.Jakai Harford, 28, was arrested on January 8 after Police raided a home in the St Monica’s Road area of Pembroke and seized a loaded gun, cocaine, cannabis and cash.He was charged at Magistrates’ Court on January 26 with possessing $14,906 worth of cocaine and $5,300 worth of cannabis with intent to supply them.He was further charged with possessing a Bryco Jennings 9mm handgun and 9mm bullet, plus equipment connected with drug use in the form of a scale and some plastic bags.Mr Harford did not have to enter pleas until he arrived at Supreme Court yesterday morning, where he told Chief Justice Richard Ground he is not guilty.The charges put to him yesterday specified possession of cocaine, but not cannabis.No explanation was given as to why they differed from the charges originally read to him at Magistrates’ Court.Defence lawyer Craig Attridge did not apply for bail, and Mr Justice Ground remanded Mr Harford into custody until he comes back to court for a further appearance next month.A second man also answered charges in a separate case this morning, during the monthly arraignment session at Supreme Court.Aaron Eversley, 25, is accused of wounding Christopher Vonhassell, 33, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The incident is alleged to have occurred on October 13, 2010.Mr Eversley pleaded not guilty and will stand trial on June 20. The Chief Justice granted him bail until then.
