A family is reeling following the death of 21-month old Nosaj Stovell in a traffic accident involving a taxi.The toddler died after being struck by the vehicle outside his Mount Wyndham, Hamilton Parish home at around 7.30pm on Wednesday.Grandmother Donna Millington yesterday told The Royal Gazette it was impossible to describe what the family was going through in the aftermath of the tragic death.“I don’t think I could put it to words,” she said. “There are no words to explain it.”She said she was getting ready to go to bed on Wednesday evening when she received a phone call from her son.“He didn’t say what happened. He just cried and asked me to pick him up,” she said. “When I got there, there were police cars. He just came to my car and said that Nosaj had an accident. I don’t know what else happened.”She described Nosaj as a “gorgeous” child who always seemed to be happy.“He was a very outgoing baby. He never seemed to stop smiling,” she said. “I would spend time with him whenever I could. I had him last weekend. We spent most of the day at the Aquarium.”According to a nearby resident, Nosaj had been unwell that day, and was being cared for by friends of his mother, 20-year-old D’Chelle Allen.“From what I gather, they all came home together in a taxi, the taxi drove in, and somehow the little fellow got struck after they got out,” the neighbour said.“They were bringing him home to his mother and it went horribly wrong. It seems he may have got behind it as it was backing out.”Nosaj’s family were new to the area, he added, describing their home as “a busy household”.The toddler was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but later pronounced dead by doctors.Father Jason Stovell told ZBM news that the incident was an accident, urging parents to keep a close watch on their children.A police spokesman said: “An investigation into this incident is ongoing and a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to the family of the deceased to assist them at this difficult time.“The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family of Nosaj Stovell.”Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley urged the community to rally around the family, adding: “I just think we all need to step back for a minute in prayer for the family and the victim, and recognise life is short and we need to do all we can to strengthen our brothers and sisters as they cope with a difficult situation.”
