House cleaning firm launches Christmas donation programme

Care@Home Services won’t be hosting its second annual Care Giveaway until December, but the firm hopes to start collecting donations this summer.

The company, a nanny placement and domestic staffing firm, took part in its first giveaway last year, providing support for more than 400 families across the Island.

Managing Director Barbara Williams said she was inspired to start the programme after she noticed how much she herself was to donate following a seasonal cleanup. She then approached her care clients, seeking assistance in a “modern day Robin Hood” programme.

She said: “The response was overwhelming, and the company collected literally truckloads of clothing and supplies for young children and simply gave it all away to families in need.

“Families received tons of clothing, shoes, toys and books. More than 30 sponsors donated cases of water, baby food, formula, and gas vouchers.

“I was truly overwhelmed by the response of our clients and the community at large. We had hundreds lined up on a chilly December morning that we were able to help. This year, we expect an even greater turnout.

“Despite evidence that the economy is improving, shortages remain a reality for far too many young families. This is simply our effort to share our blessings.”

This year’s giveaway is set to take place on December 8, but the group is looking to begin collecting clean clothes, toys and other supplies next month. Anyone interested in participating as a donor or sponsor is urged to contact Care Coordinator Patrice Muhammad at rsvpcare@evolution.bm.
