Boulevard keeper out of cup clash

Boulevard 'keeper Andrew Jjombwe has been ruled out of the club's FA Cup clash with Commercial outfit BAA at BAA Field this weekend.

The 27-year old Ugandan required three stitches to close a gash on his right index finger he suffered during Boulevard's 1-1 stalemate with PHC Zebras at Southampton Oval on Sunday.

Jjombwe, who has settled in nicely at his new club, was kicked in the hand while attempting to save a header at the back post and was subsequently replaced by Randy Broadbelt.

A Blazers statement confirmed yesterday that their number one 'keeper would not take any part in this weekend's cup clash.

"Andrew Jjombwe sustained a hand injury during the match against PHC on Sunday which was examined and treated," the brief statement read.

It is now hoped the Blazers goalie will regain match fitness prior to his team's February 1 Premier clash with crosstown rivals North Village at BAA Field.

"Andrew will miss this weekend's FA Cup match with BAA but isn't expected to be sidelined for any significant period of time," the Boulevard statement added.

Blazers, who appeared in a first Dudley Eve final in nearly two decades earlier this month, remain in contention for Premier honours just a point adrift of leaders Dandy Town.

They have also been pitted against Zebras in next month's Friendship Trophy semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Bermuda Football Association (BFA) announced yesterday that this Sunday's Under-18 match involving PHC and Dandy Town had been moved to Southampton Oval (12.30 p.m.), They also confirmed that Boulevard had withdrawn from the Under-18 Youth League.
