Boulevard stepped up their title challenge by extending their lead at the top of the Premier Division table with a well-deserved win over Somerset Trojans at BAA Field.

Coach Andrew Bascome named a number of teenagers in his starting line-up yesterday, including winger Quadir Maynard who struck midway through the second half to secure Bascome's 'babes' the victory.

In truth, they should have won by a greater margin with Angelo Simmons missing two one-on-one chances, while Maynard somehow failed to open the scoring in the first half when he prodded over from close range with the goal at his mercy.

Their inability to kill off the game ensured Blazers lived dangerously at times with their goalkeeper Shejuan Swan seeming intent in gifting Trojans an equaliser by making numerous careless errors throughout the match.

Trojans' best chance came at the end of the first period when Jelani Butterfield headed Tahj Wade's right wing cross well wide from a good position.

Blazers twice had Michael Parsons to thank with the defender clearing off the line either side of half-time, first from a Jelani Scott effort and then from Adrian Burrows' header.

In the absence of defensive lynchpins Ajani Gibbons and Hobte Burrows, Bascome brought rookies Aaron Nelson and Damili Bell into the heart of his back-line with both players receiving plenty of praise from their coach after the game.

"I was very pleased especially with the young players at the back," Bascome said.

"They showed plenty of commitment and discipline.

"My two centre defenders are both only 16-year-olds but they have a good technique and an understanding of the game.

"It was a bit frustrating that we couldn't find the second goal but our biggest problem is fitness.

"I was very pleased with my son (Drewonde) today and I thought all of the young boys did exceptionally well against Trojans.."

It is believed a disagreement between Blazers and their landlords, Dandy Town, resulted in the match being switched from St.John's Field to BAA Field.

Somerset Eagles 2

An Andre Famous double guided Devonshire Colts to their second win of the season as they held onto a victory against Somerset Eagles at Police Field.

Famous gave Colts the lead before Kyle Jones doubled the Colts just before half-time.

Aquino Grant pulled a goal back for Eagles early in the second half, but Famous scored his second goal of the game to give his team the lead.

Former Ireland Rangers player Jonathan Bean scored late in the match, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
